The edge of the cliff and the underside of the staircase have a ragged look, as though some vast chunk of the earth has been suddenly ripped away. A broken pipe sticks out of the cliff wall. Moss hangs from the pipe and the side of the cliff. At the end of the staircase, nearly tumbling off into space, is a pedestrian traffic signal on a small post. It is showing the white "walk" signal.
