mailbox

A rusty, dilapidated metal mailbox on a decrepit-looking post. The flag is up. The surrounding environment is the dull blue of late evening or early morning. A low fog covers the weedy ground; a blurry treeline is visible in the background. The mailbox has moss hanging from the underside. Wherever this is, it's been a long while since anyone's put a letter in it. That doesn't mean it's empty, though; a hazy, ghostlike blur is drifting from the mailbox's door-less opening. Nature—or however we define the wild expanse of the non-human universe—abhors an empty mailbox.

A mostly submerged iceberg, with blue sky above and the blue arctic sea below. The view is more like a cross-section, rather than from above or below. The bulk of the iceberg is under the water and blurry. Visible towards the bottom of it is a dim glowing rectangle that looks like a window. Sticking out from the top of the iceberg is a small red mailbox, the mailbox post covered in snow.

A mailbox post rises up from a ground covered by thick fog. Placed on the arm of the post where the mailbox would be is a small house-shaped box that does indeed resemble a mailbox. The door on the front is closed. There are suggestions that it is no ordinary mailbox, however, like the glowing, circular window on the side, and the large bell hanging over the door of the mailbox. Below the mailbox, nearly engulfed by the fog, stands a small figure. The size of the figure compared to the mailbox post suggesting that this post is as tall as a multi-story building. The figure is reaching up and grasping a string that dangles from the bell, as though ringing the bell to alert whoever's living inside the mailbox that they have a visitor.
