A hellishly crimson day: a cloud-choked sun at high noon hangs over a wooded mountainside. The sun is dimly reflected in the lake below. Everything is red, everything is washed out. The air looks heavy, either with humidity or smoke.

A rowboat that appears to be hovering in the air in a thick fog. There are two figures in the rowboat: one smaller and hooded in the back, and a tall robed figure holding a staff in the front. Below the boat is the suggestion of a horizon and some blurry dark shapes that could be either trees or mountains. Above are hazy clouds.

A small, grassy hill, far out in the middle of a forest. It's early evening on a damp, foggy night. The sky is a deep blue, not black. There is a full moon wrapped in fog, with a blurry tree line in the background. On top of the hill stands a pink, glowing vending machine (the soda kind, not the food kind). On top of the vending machine sits a cat.

An aerial view of a small, mostly wooded island. In the center of the island, dominating it, stand the crumbling remains of what looks like a high-rise apartment block or hotel. The uppermost stories especially are coming apart, as though from a fire. Elsewhere on the island are scattered outbuildings: a small boxy building next to a helicopter landing strip, a lighthouse at the northern tip of the island, the remains of an antenna to the south, and a rusting shipwreck in a small cove. In the top left is a compass symbol. This island has no name, and the few that even know if its existence are happy enough not to speak of it. There is little left to attract visitors: just woods, ruins, and an uneasy sense that perhaps this forgotten place is not as uninhabited as it appears.

A person sitting in a car seat and holding a steering wheel. Both the seat and the steering column are fused into the earth, not part of any vehicle. Above the person is a traffic light dangling down from the sky, not fixed to any visible source. The light is green, but nobody seems to be going anywhere.

A broad, desert expanse; the heat of a desert afternoon. Mountains shimmer in the distance. You're standing on a grassy hilltop overlooking a plain. Placed on the hill, for no apparent reason, is a tall, weathered sign with the word "diner" on it. A bird perches on the sign; a vulture circles overhead.

A view from the surface of a moon. Not necessarily ours. A vast, barren, rocky landscape with a crater or two. A mountain range is dimly visible in the background. On the right is a cliff, with a few structures on it: something like a lighthouse, or smokestack, and a construction of iron girders. In the sky over the landscape hangs a large planet that is clearly occupied, given the visible outlines of continents formed by pinpoints of light. Another, smaller planet is visible farther away. The sky is filled with stars, forming a Milky-Way-like strip.

A traveler stands on a road in a wide meadow, a mountain and clouds in the background. Next to the traveler is an abandoned telephone pole with wires dangling from it. At the top of the pole sits a large, furry creature with horns and bat wings, dangling a television as if it were a lure. The television screen is filled with static.

A large, conical hill made of soil. The hill is topped by an orange road cone and surrounded by orange tape, as though it's a construction zone; an orange warning sign indicating a bump is affixed to the hill. Under other circumstances, this might look like a particularly egregious construction project, but the perceptive observer will notice a door and chimney stuck in the hill, indicating a resident. It is evening. A full moon illuminates the scene. Drive carefully.

A tall sign—the size of a two-story building—out in the middle of nowhere with "diner" written on it. Some of the letters are dim, neon bulbs; others aren't lit at all. Also affixed to the sign pole is a street light, casting a dull light. The atmosphere seems to be a wet, foggy day. A figure stands under the street light, perhaps waiting for someone. Another figure approaches through the fog. Off in the distance is a dim, barely visible tree line, suggesting a forest.

A grassy hillside in the moonlight. On the hillside are two boulders, one stacked on top of the other. The lower one looks vaguely like a body; the upper one definitely has a face carved into it, looking at the viewer. One side of the figure is eerily lit by the full moon. The boulders are balanced precariously, propped up with rickety supports. A forest tree line is visible in the background.

A scene of two large, tenement-like blocks placed on a flat, desolate plain. Between them stands a huge, blazing figure, terrifying in its brilliance. Those who imagine angels as being of light should picture Lucifer. Standing in the shadows of one of the blocks is a small figure, up against the wall so as not to be seen. The blazing figure appears to be looking for something.

A bleak, featureless setting: no scenery or landscape, nothing except for a dark, staticky background. A gray figure who looks sort of like an early all-in-one Macintosh with legs and an antenna wanders forward. Where the figure's face would be is a glowing white screen, showing nothing except blazing white light that illuminates the area in front of it, as though the air is slightly foggy. The figure has a disk drive for a mouth and knobs on the side. In the immortal words of Gary Larson, "it was late and I was tired."

A woods at night. The sky is the clear blue of a summer evening; the full moon is high in the sky. A wall of dark trees rises in the background. In the foreground, in a small clearing illuminated by moonlight, stands a tall, mushroom-shaped structure: it looks like a birdhouse made from a tall, slender mushroom. A circular opening is carved into the side of it, revealing a warm, yellow interior light. Right outside the structure, as if it's just exited the opening, is a glowing white ball that's giving of sparks. Up in the sky is another creature; a white winged thing that could be a fairy with birdlike wings and, yes, antlers. You might have imagined forest spirits as looking like pagan nymphs, but we can't all be pagan nymphs I'm afraid.

A vast, flat, desert floor. Rising up from it are huge blocks the size of an apartment building, but they have no windows or doors. They're not arranged in a city grid, or connected by streets; they're placed at random places, in a sort of staggered pattern. One is nearest the viewer, one is a little ways away, and one is barely a ghost in the distance. The sun sits in a partly cloudy sky, at what looks like late afternoon; the buildings cast long shadows. Walking between the buildings, across the desert, is a very small figure, alone, also casting a long shadow. Above, the only other living thing is a large bird circling in the dry heat of the far desert.

A vast rectangular monolith rises out of the desert. On the front of it is the symbol for radioactivity, with a crudely painted horizontal X directly underneath; the overall effect suggests a skull and crossbones. On the side of the monolith is inscribed, vertically, "2067 AD". The sun is partially blocked by the top right corner of the monolith. In front of it, three small figures—desert wanderers, from the looks of them—congregate in front of the monolith. One gestures to it. The characters on the side are meaningless to them, but they have come to know one thing: the dot with the three rays emanating from it signifies one of the bad places; the stretches of desert that, for thousands of years, are known to be cursed.

A phosphorescent-green cat sits on a rocky promontory under a clear starry night, face turned towards the sky. The object the cat is sitting on has a metal plate with a symbol indicating a radioactive hazard, and an arrow pointing down.

A small figure stands next to a huge, fanglike spike rising out of the ground. Other spikes can be seen in the distance, faded, as though the air is thick and heavy. A low layer of fog seems to sit right above the ground. The ground itself is barren and scrubby, devoid of all plants except the occasional weed. The wind isn't strong by somehow never stops. You have never felt more alone, and somehow—unsettlingly—not alone. Oh...and don't drink the water.

A collection of huge, glowing bones lies under the ground in a rocky cavern, as though a radioactive dinosaur has died there. The ground above the bones is barren and flat; the sky is overcast. A ghost of a sun shows through. Planted in the ground right above the bones in a small, triangular warning sign. There's nothing visible on the sign, but the shape suggests it is warning about those glowing bones under the ground.

Evening: that time when it's not yet dark and the world is a deep blue. A hiker out in some barren wilderness stumbles on three large black boxes stacked on each other. Above them floats a glowing white box with a question mark in it. All the boxes look like they're from a level in one of the classic Mario platform games.

A stump of a tree stands near a flat, grassless riverbank. The stump has a branch that sticks far out. Draped over it is an iPhone, the screen displaying colored icons. The iPhone is draped like a towel, bent over the branch as though it's made of rubber. The sky looks like either dawn or dusk: pink clouds, and the ghost of a moon high up in the sky.

A person raises a giant boulder over their head. The boulder has grass and a tree on the top, and dirt and roots on the bottom, suggesting it was ripped out of the ground. More notably, it also has a giant eye on the front.

March 14, 2023
Huge, Stonehenge-like obelisks that form an archway that resembles the Greek letter Pi. This is because I'm a nerd and today is March 14. The arch has a layer of snow on top of it, stands in the middle of a snowy field on a gray day; the kind of day where the sky is the gray-white of an incoming blizzard. This was inspired by the fact that there is currently a heavy snowstorm going on outside my apartment. I love this weather and apparently I'm the only one.

An old-style, monochrome television—you know, the kind with knobs and a cathode ray tube—stands on furry, spindly legs. It is standing on a grassy hill at night: behind it is the suggestion of a city seen from a great height, the streets defined by lights. There's a moon partially hidden behind fog. It is, altogether, a distinctly eerie scene; one made all the more unsettling by the fact that the television screen is on and glowing, displaying a monstrous staring face.

A lone figure stands at the mouth of a cave, which is also the mouth of a giant stone face in the side of a cliff. Behind, the sun blazes from thick clouds; the kind you see right before or after a rain. There is a faded suggestion of a tree line. The universe holds its breath, awaiting the figure's next move.

A giant observatory with two furry legs stands astride a rocky landscape at either dawn or dusk. The horizon is crimson, with pink clouds. The observatory's dome doors are open, telescope fixed on a blazing white object in the sky.

A large building that resembles a traffic light: two circular windows and a circular door, partially open. The building stands on a rocky hill by the ocean. Next to it, a person takes off into the air wearing a jetpack and carrying a radio controller.

A vast stone obelisk with a face. The mouth is an open cave with a fire burning inside. It is night. The obelisk is illuminated by a moon; an eerie, pale-green scene.
